This is meant to be an argumentative essay. I have included the line of my essay that a comment was made followed by the actual comment made by my professor. Please rewrite this essay to address the following comments:
“Standardized testing has been a crucial element of educational evaluation, providing
educators and policymakers with useful information on student accomplishment and academic
advancement.” > Here you have an assumption (also below, when you say “The significance of standardized testing . . . is crucial.” There are those who would not agree with these assumptions.
“The use of standardized testing has been an essential component of educational evaluation for a very long time…” > You accidentally repeated a bunch of sentences from the first part of the paragraph.
For your first mention, use first and last name. Of BOTH authors. And you don’t need the author parenthetical citation since you cite the author here with a “speaker tag” but you should put page number in parentheses.
“A broader variety of assessment modalities that adapt to the individual learning…” > However, Jiminez seems to addressing socio-economic inequities, not just individual differences in learning styles.
“Students who are black, indigenous, and hispanic graduate high school at lower rates than their white peers…” > This provides important context but this quote in itself doesn’t exactly support your comments before and after it.
“Futhermore, the incorporation of varied viewpoints in reading passages and the avoidance of questions…” > This has been acknowledged for quite a while and one would think standardized testing companies and the school districts and states that use their products would be on top of this.
“However, as Boser notes, there is room for a more sophisticated approach to evaluation using matrix sampling…” > I’m not sure I fully understand what you or Boser are saying. I am aware of tests like the NWEA that (a) adapt questions to the individual student as they proceed through the test, and (b) do not require being administered to all students everywhere every year. But is that “matrix sampling”? Do you understand what this is?
