This is for an architecture class centered around theory. This is the prompt for the essay: Compare and contrast two different representations produced for the same project. Evaluate how each artifact is utilized by the architect to develop, communicate, or document the design of the project. Some questions you could answer: How are the architect’s ideas and concepts made manifest in the representations? What is role did each respective media play in their development? What does each representation show? What do they omit? How do these factors illuminate the architectural intentions behind the project?
We have had to write two research papers and this was the guidline given to us for the first ppaper and we were told to follow a similar guidline for the second: Research topics must find a precise point of departure in the required readings and be related to a critical project of architecture. Students will conduct a close reading of a single architetectural artifact (photograph, drawing, model photo, text) of their choosing supported by a critical essay. The paper should reference at least two other seminar readings, as well as other researched scholarly bibliographic material. Essays will be evaluated according to the following:
Understanding of material: appropriate use of supporting texts
Close reading: demonstrated in-depth engagement with chosen artifact
Scholarly standards: sufficient evidentiary support and proper citation of sources
Intellectual level: ability to synthesize ideas and establish a clear argument
Quality of writing: adherence to length requirement and proper use of grammar, spelling,etc.
I’ve attached a list of the seminar readings we’ve done in class for you to reference them. Required readings are the ones we’ve gone over in class and supplmental are just suggestions from the professor to read in our free time so you can either reference them or not.
