Final Instructions
Your assignment is to prepare a 2000-2500 word paper on one of the battles which took place after 1800 AD as described in the 100 Decisive Battles by Paul K. Davis .
(I’ve chosen the battle of Jerusalem – 1917)
Davis’s book is one of the readings in Week 7 Learning Resources. YOU MAY NOT USE GALLIPOLI, GETTYSBURG or PEARL HARBOR FOR YOUR BATTLE. Address all three of these topics in your paper.
Background of the battle/campaign – for example, time & location, why was it fought, who were the combatants, who were leaders, etc. (This is an important part of the paper)
Description of the battle/campaign – what were the major events in the engagement, who won, etc. (2nd most important part of the paper)
Analysis of the battle/campaign based on the Army FM-3 Principles of War. (most important part of the paper) You do not need to address all nine principles. You should focus on those principles which were clearly demonstrated during the battle. If certain principles were not demonstrated, and their omission contributed to the victory or defeat, you should address those principles, also.
The paper must be 2000-2500 words in length, double-spaced, numbered, include 1 inch margins, use 12 point Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman, and include a cover page that identifies who you are, the title of the course, the name of your instructor, and state Final Paper. The cover page, endnotes (if applicable), and bibliography do not count in the 2000-2500 words. Your paper must be a word document (.doc or .docx), not a PDF or .pages doc.
The paper must include footnotes and a Bibliography page. The citation style must be Chicago/Turabian. You may also consult the short guide linked to in this sub-module at the bottom. Outside research for appropriate primary and secondary sources is necessary.
Footnotes/endnotes & works cited/ bibliography page included; Chicago/Turabian style used, selected sources are appropriate to the topic; citations support assertions made in the essay; footnotes/endnotes used in each instance where detailed explanations would distract from the argument.
