June 24, 2024

This is a comprehensive final that will employ you to use all skills learned in the modules of this course in a simulated job search. As you are preparing for your career, you will be connecting many key elements in your job search and career work.
Please read each of the four parts carefully and submit one document with all four parts. A template has been created for you to use or you may create your own.
Part 1: When applying for new positions, it is important to research the institution where the position is located. An institution’s history can help shape the current environment. Prior to applying for a job you want to research the institution to learn more about its history, legal concerns, policies, etc. This section of your final will focus on researching the history of the institution.
Using what you learned from Module 1, select your institution of choice and provide a history of an institution of higher education by comparing its history to that presented in the text. Pick at least 3 historical events that shaped the institution. Be sure to introduce the institution by providing the following information: institution type, mission, and values. (20%)
Part 2: Select a job opening at the school that you chose. Answer the following in regard to that position. All questions related to the modules of this course. (30%)
Student Affairs Role
Title of Position:
Department:
Discuss where the position lies within the organizational structure.
Summarize the role of this position.
Discuss one legal concern that may occur in this position.
Discuss one ethical concern that may occur in this position.
Discuss two potential professional memberships that would assist a person in this position.
Part 3: Create a statement on your philosophy of student affairs/development. Incorporate theories from the text. You may add other resources to help drive your point. Remember, make your statement as authentic as possible because you may want to utilize it for a future job application. Limit to one page. (30%)
Part 4: This part of your final ties everything together. Here you will create a cover letter (limit to one page) for the position that you selected. Discuss how you are qualified for the position and how you would integrate yourself with the mission and values of the institution. Write this letter as if you are really applying for this position. (20%)
Final is due before midnight on June 28th. No paper will be accepted after that date unless there are extenuating circumstances. Remember to add your references.
