April 8, 2024

This individual report will be about current issues in international agricultural trade or trade policies affecting
global markets or finance. Submission will be in two-parts: CIR-1 and CIR-2, uploaded as pdf files in Canvas by
their due dates. The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with an opportunity to hone your critical reading,
thinking, and writing skills by examining current, real-world trade policy issues in the U.S. or globally.
Relevant articles: Report should cover 4 news/reports/organization or
journal articles.
Each of the 4 articles will identify and examine 4 distinct trade concepts learned in class that is
evident in real-world scenarios. Articles you chose MUST NOT be more than 5 years old from report due date.
Reference Sources: Properly cite the article you used for your report
in MLA/APA format in the list of reference page attached to the end of the report.
Attach the 4 articles used at the end of your report. The attached
articles don’t count towards the total page limit. The articles must have clear publication date, source, author.
(create 1 page pdf or word doc or jpeg snapshot of top page of article if long article or all pages if short articles.
For each report, you are to find four (4) recent news or journal articles online (for example: Google Scholar,
www.cnn.com, www.msnbc.com, www.foxnews.com, The New York Times, The Economist, the Wall Street
Journal etc.) pertaining to agricultural trade policy issues of your choice. The articles you chose MUST NOT be
more than 5 years old from the due date of the report. Papers using older articles will automatically be given a
grade of 0. If the article does not have a clear publication date, source, author, etc. do not use it. Blogs of news
agencies or agricultural organizations are ok. However, personal websites and opinion pieces without scientific data
may not be used and would result in a grade of 0. Be careful about this!
A: Each report has three (3) components – all 3 components are required for full credit (Total = 20 pts).
1. (2 pts.) Attach a 1 page cover-sheet with name of student, course number, and date of submission.
2. (8 + 8 = 16 pts) The following 4 pages (1 page for each article) should each have the following sections:
a. Summary: Provide article title and your summary of the entire article in your own words (just copying
sentences from the article is plagiarism and is NOT considered a summary). Overusing quotations in
scholarly articles is deemed as substandard writing practice. (2 pts for each of the 4 articles = 8 pts.)
b. Analysis: Provide at least one review of academic literature on the topic you have selected. Use
“Google Scholar” to look for references. Make sure to cite your sources. In your personal analysis of
the topic you have selected, explore the influence of past pandemics, economic downturns, trade wars,
or geopolitical occurrences on the formulation of trade policies and the evolution of patterns associated
with your chosen theme. (2 pts for each of the 4 articles = 8 pts.)
3. (2 pts.) Attach a separate sheet with the list of references for the articles used (not counted in page limit).
This sheet will contain a list of all references and articles used (i.e., author, source, and date of publication).
See APA guidelines posted in Canvas or articles from Google Scholar for examples of how to list and cite
your references. You can use any style (MLA, APA, etc.), just be consistent throughout the document.
B. Attach all articles (1-2 pages or jpeg snapshots) used at the end of the report (refer to example CIRs posted).
Submit the entire report as 1 pdf file in Canvas under “CIR submissions” by the deadlines noted.
