This assignment is for Part 3 of a more extensive portfolio. My social change portfolio focuses on the prevention of unemployment among people with severe mental health illness (SMI) in my community (Detroit, Michigan).
In my social change class, we are focusing on building out this portfolio one week at a time. We are in week 5/10. I have written the introduction, Part 1: Scope and Consequences, and Part 2: Social-Ecological Model. I will attach the portfolio and the references needed for this week’s assignment. (Please feel free to add any additional references that you can find that fit my topic).
Theories of prevention can guide practitioners in studying a health or societal problem and in planning solutions (National Cancer Institute, 2005). For this Assignment, you will consider which theories are applicable to the community problem you are investigating, and you will evaluate the implications for solutions.

Review the Learning Resources for this week and consider Theories of Prevention related to a community problem.
Create a section in your Social Change Portfolio called “Part 3: Theories of Prevention” and add an applicable theory(ies) and include the following:
1 or 2 theories that you can apply to a prevention program to address the target problem you identified in Week 2 and justify why this theory(ies) is/are appropriate for the problem and population you have identified. Please do not choose the social-ecological theory, as it was utilized in the previous section.
Briefly summarize research support for the theory or theories you chose
Identify an existing evidence-based program for this target problem. The “What Works” documents in the learning resources contain excellent examples to choose from.
