This 4-6 page paper is designed to measure HBSE II educational
outcomes as they relate to a student’s understanding of macro theories as
applied to explain the development and operation of communities, groups, and
organizations. Students will also develop an understanding of social justice
and resource allocation from the macro perspective.
Think of the United States as a community within a global
ecosystem. Pick a particular social justice issue, such as social injustice,
poverty, crime, etc., and analyze the problem using the theoretical models of
organizations, groups, and communities from the readings and class discussions.
The goal is for you to understand, at the macro levels, the systemic social,
economic, and political forces that affect human behavior and critically
analyze current approaches being implemented to address social problems.
Identify and describe a social issue of importance in your
community (geographic and non-geographic) or organization that would benefit
from reform. Comprehensively describe the
extent of the problem, the effect on human behavior, the relevance to the
larger macro environments, and the historical roots of the problem. For
instance, if you choose racism within policing, your paper will illustrate the
extent of the problem within the community, how the problem affects the United
States as a whole, and the history of the problem. Additionally, you will
analyze the problem through the global lens and discuss how the problem is
experienced and/or addressed in other parts of society (nationally or
internationally).
You must include information provided
by at least 5 scholarly references (academic journal articles, not
information from websites) and outline at least three approaches to bring about
change. (Please note: You may not choose health disparities as your topic.)
