A couple of great questions raised by a student:
“With section 1, the AFSA price is quoted as the 2023 price, can I please confirm if David and Beths ages are relative to 2024? i.e. they will retire in 2042?”
The short answer is YES. Since I did not specify the birth month and year in this questions, it is absolute fine to use consider their age are relative to 2024. If you have one more (or less) year in your calculation, no marks will be deducted. In contrast, in some other questions (3 and 4) when I clearly specify the dates, you will have to be exact.
“with question 1.2 is the $80,000 per year 2023 rate to match question 1.1 so i will need to adjust it with the same 2% inflation? ”
The short answer is YES. The context is that David and Beth are basing their decisions on the current AFSA cost estimate and they want to enjoy VERY comfortable retirement living style. Hence, the $80,000 in their mind is in relation to the $71,724 standard.
However, if you are using 80,000 directly, no marks will be deducted, as long as you use the correct formula to calculate the corresponding value.
No marks will go directly to the Excel worksheet. You are welcome to use your calculator. Nevertheless, you can briefly explain the steps. In case the final answer is a bit off, partial credit will be given wherever is due.
Do not leave all the workings out on the excel sheet.
You can exclude the cover page and the table of content from the word limit. Also, no penalty will be applied for a document with less than 2200 words.
