There are two PowerPoints given, one on ancient greek world for part 1 and another on hellenistic and roman for part 2. Use the Powerpoints given for the following 2 steps. And poem “Women” for part 1. And John R. Clarke for question 2. Please come up with two 150-word response for each response along with visual images for visual analysis.
1. Read Semonides’ poem “Women”
and share your thoughts about it in a 150-word response along the following guidelines:
What overarching themes emerge in Semonides’ comments about women that reveal specific male concerns and prejudices? Discuss at least one such theme. (Think of it as a common thread that emerges in more than one “types” of women.) Make reference to specific verses of the poem to anchor your comments in the text.
What connections can you identify between Semonides’ comments and mainstream beliefs of ancient Greek culture as seen through representative visual creations discussed in this week’s lectures? Reference at least one such connection and explain how at least one visual element of the material you mention relates Semonides’ comments. Note that while Semonides focuses on women, what he says about them also constructs a diametrically opposed identity for men. In your reply to this question, you can discuss either ancient Greek femininity or masculinity (or both). Remember to attach an image of your visual example to your post.
Your answer to question B can explore the same theme you chose to discuss for question A or a different relevant topic, but in either case, you must relate your answer to question B to the Powerpoint (Ancient greek world) attached. You must answer both questions.
2. Share your most important learning takeaway from the Powerpoint (Hellenistic and Roman) in a 150-word response, following the steps below .
What I found particularly significant (or interesting, or surprising, or puzzling, or…) in the material of this week was … because… (explain why you chose to discuss this topic, why you think it is important in regards to the material examined—and by extension, why it is important to you).
To illustrate my points, I choose this image (identify image and source), because it shows… (explain how your image relates to your topic of choice. Use this part of the assignment to further develop your analysis of of the previous section. Refer to specific aspects or details of the image that support your comments. Your image has to be attached to your primary post. Please note that your image has to be directly related to the material discussed in the Powerpoint: it has to be something produced in the cultures examined in the Powerpoint. Any later comparative material you might want to references should be in addition to you main image, which has to be drawn from the ancient Greco-Roman world.
