June 22, 2024

There are many ways the ideas from Chapter 13 apply to our interpersonal conflicts and how we manage them. Quite often, disagreements between people concern issues reflecting societal conflicts. Currently, American society is engaged in numerous conflicts, which focus on different issues at state and federal levels. These issues may permeate neighborhoods, and even families, where differences of opinion exist. Societal conflicts that exist at the interpersonal level involve social, religious, political, and economic issues.
As we approach the end of the course, it is appropriate to take time and reflect on how the concepts from this course apply to everyday situations. Chapter 13 focuses on managing social conflict. Instead of providing you with a case study, this activity will give you the opportunity to explore the managing of a social issue of your choice.
As you analyze your selected social issue, describe how the concepts from chapter 13 apply to your social issue. Since your analysis may be driven by your worldview, it is critical to validate your position with scholarly references and concepts from the assigned reading.
For this activity, please engage in the following:
Search in the Excelsior library for a current social issue. Use the Library Tip Sheet Download Library Tip Sheetto help you perform an effective search.
Provide background (briefly) of the issue and then express your position about the issue in the introduction of your essay (use a thesis).
Provide the necessary evidence (research) to validate your position.
Use and define the concepts you read in Chapter 13 that apply to this scenario.
Explain and contextualize the behavior of the groups or people you see involved in your selected social issue (provide evidence of research).
Cite at least two sources using APA style using scholarly sources from the library.
This essay should be about 500-700 words.
In your conclusion, suggest a method to manage the social conflict through communications.
Below are some examples of various social issues, but there are others you could select: Environmentalism
Fighting Urban Poverty
Climate Change
LGBTQ Rights
Bullying
Women in Combat Roles
