Theory Application Paper
Individually, you will complete a 3-5 page paper examining how any two theories from our textbook have been applicable in your life over the past semester. For each theory you select, you must summarize the theory in your own words and then relate it to your own life including specific examples. Please cite your sources in APA style. For example, you may explain how being assertive has improved your communication skills with a co-worker or explain how one of the leadership theories applies to you in your current job.
You will be graded as follows:
10 points (5 points each)
_____ – Meets assignment specifications (3-5 pages, double spaced, 12 pt font, APA style)
_____ – Proper grammar, well written in formal language, correct spelling
20 points (10 points each)
_____ – Explanation of Theory 1 and example of real life situation
_____ – Explanation of Theory 2 and example of real life situation
For reference to the type of bosses and jobs I have dealt with, I have worked at Target and Dollar General, and I am also a hair braider who has worked in a salon.
This is the introduction I have made so far, including the two theories I have chosen:
Over the past semester, my experiences and learning about new theories have provided me with new lenses to apply to my life, especially concerning motivation and job satisfaction. Two theories that have stood out to me from the textbook are the Herzberg’s two-factor theory and Maslow’s theory of motivation. These theories have been illuminating(chose another word) in understanding my own behaviors and motivations. Herzberg’s theory helped me realize and explain my varying levels of satisfaction and engagement in both workplace and academic settings. On the other hand, Maslow’s theory offers an understanding of the different levels of needs that motivate my actions and aspirations. The applications of these theories in my life throughout the semester have been impactful and were the most impactful.
