In our lives and society, we are rarely still and quiet. Many even go to sleep with their phone, t.v., or radio. You should practice your chosen form of meditation, then write about your thoughts and experience. Your paper should be at least close to one page or more, in APA format including an APA formatted title page. An abstract is not required. This assignment does not require that you use outside sources because you are primarily writing your own thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. However, if you do choose to include something that connects to your experience, be sure to cite that. I am a christian.
For this assignment, spend at least 30 minutes to 1 hour in any form of SILENT meditation that is comfortable to you and/or fits with your theological beliefs. This may be something you have not tried before, so it may be a bit strange, uncomfortable or new. You can practice complete silence, meditate on scripture, meditative prayer, or any other form of meditative practice. The difference between these practices and practicing them in a meditative manner is the element of clearing your mind to open your heart. You should not have any noise or distractions. Pay attention to your location and your body position as you meditate. This also will vary with each individual, but it should be practiced in a place of silence / solitude / nature, etc. A busy place with other people will not work – it should be practiced alone. It is not recommended that you do so in your bed at night so that you fall asleep. You want to be still and quiet, but able to think and/or listen “within.”
Then, write about your experience and the connection to the mind-body and other course concepts. What did you do? How difficult was it to practice? What happened during the experience? What did you think about or realize if anything? What else do you want to share about the experience? How did (or might) the practice benefit you spiritually?
