The topic I choose for this assignmemt is “The impact of AI on education”
Assignment: List four (4) scholarly sources and two (2) multi-modal sources in MLA format with a short paragraph following each entry on each of the following: main point or thesis, logic, credibility, audience and appeals, significance, and usefulness. You are writing one (1) short paragraph after every entry, so you’re writing six (6) paragraphs total. Each paragraph addresses six (6) things (see below) about one source. Make a 1-sentence response to answer any 1 of the questions/issues under each heading.
Write one sentence on the source’s thesis or main argument:
What is the MAIN POINT or thesis of the source? Quote it or quote a passage from which you’ll infer the main point. You may find that it is stated, implied, logical, inferential, simple, or multi-faceted. For multi-modal sources: central issue or point.
Write a sentence on logic or inferences:
Deductive reasoning: Look for words such as the following: if/then, because, therefore, so, in conclusion, etc. How does your author set out a series of major premises, definitions, assertions; minor premises, examples, instances, applications; and conclusions? What is the structure of argumentation? Which argument leads to other arguments? Choose logic or inferences for this sentence.
Inductive reasoning: Look for places where the author makes inferences or builds on reasonable assumptions. Notice the following words or their equivalents: infer, imply, connote, suggest, etc. Where does the author guess at things?
Write a sentence on credibility:
How does the author establish credibility? Which strategies does he/she use? Do you notice authoritative language, the use of statistics, or references to a variety of additional secondary sources? What constitutes credibility and how does the text define its own standards for credibility?
Write a sentence on how the source addresses an audience & makes appeals:
Where, why, and how does the author appeal to the reader? Who is the author’s implied audience? Look for terminology that points to a certain group of readers. Look for emotionally-laden adjectives and anecdotes.
Write a sentence on the significance of the source:
What is the most important and most unique feature of this source? How is this source different from other sources? What do the issues in this source contribute to the understanding of the social problem you are studying?
Write a sentence on the usefulness of the source & its role among sources:
Why is the source useful for your research? How do you plan to use it in your Context Project? How do you plan to compare or contrast it with other sources?
