The structure of this paper will follow the Toulmin model. This means that the paper will contain
• A clear claim (at the end of your introduction).
• Grounds (reasons/data to support your claim).
• Backing (to support the warrant upon which your claim/grounds are built).
• Rebuttals (to address the opposition).
• Qualifiers (to allow for exceptions or concessions).
At the paragraph level, recall that each paragraph needs
• A clear topic sentence.
• Supporting evidence in the form of correctly cited quotes, paraphrases, and summaries. Use multiple piece of evidence from multiple sources in each paragraph.
Clear discussion of the evidence, showing readers how the evidence leads to the conclusion (the topic sentence) you wish them to reach.
• A concluding sentence to sum up the point of the paragraph.
At the sentence level, implement our recent rhetorical tropes and schemes.
• Consider adding a trope here and there throughout the paper to help readers understand the issue from a different perspective (through comparison, etc.).
• Consider adding a scheme or two in places where you want to make a powerful statement and emphasize your point.

Formatting and Mechanics
Use MLA Formatting,
Quote and paraphrase your sources correctly in MLA format.
Include a correctly formatted Works Cited page in MLA format.
• This should reflect the sources you used in the paper. That is, if you used eight sources in the paper, those same eight sources should appear in your references list, and vice versa.
Write in third person point of view. This means you will not use “,” “my,” “mine,” “you,” “your,” “yours,” etc.
Make sure that you proofread your paper carefully before turning it in.
