Du Bois biography provides the foundation information for when and why this book was written. However this paper is an analysis of the book Souls of Black Folks, not a biography of DuBois or a book review. The ebook is available online through the John B. Coleman Library.

Precis Assignments
You must first locate the thesis statement of the book. If you misidentify or fail to locate the thesis you have fail the assignment. The goal of this assignment is to judge whether the author successful defended the thesis of this narrative. Primary and secondary sources must be identified and used for the summary of the book. Remember you are either justify or refuting the manner in which the author defends his thesis. Most importantly I must be able to read your essay. Therefore I have added grammarly to the link in which you upload the assignment. In addition please make use of the Writing Center. Paragraph 1
The first paragraph should introduce the subject matter of the book/article in an interesting and engaging manner.
Make the audience want to continue reading beyond the first sentence. You should identify the author, title of the
book/article and the thesis.
Paragraph 2
Identify the larger historiographical framework or setting of the book/article. Discuss the historical
significance/contribution.
Paragraphs 3-5
Provide a summary of the book/article. Since this assignment is not a book report, your analysis should be either
chronological or thematic.
Paragraph 6
Discuss what you perceive to be the strengths and weaknesses of the book/article. For example, the strengths
could be the contribution to historical understanding, or the writing style. On the other hand, weaknesses could be
complexity of terminology used or the lack of documentation.
Paragraph 7
Evaluate the primary and secondary sources used. Even though you may not be an “expert” discuss if you believe
the sources indicated enough depth of research by the author to adequately discuss the subject matter.
Paragraph 8
Revisit the author’s thesis and discuss if you believe the contents of the book/article adequately defended it (the
thesis). If so, how? If not, why not?
