The Roman education system was different for both girls and boys. While boys were educated in subjects like politics and war, girls were mostly taught values that would help them run a household.

In Unit 2 of this course, you studied about the Greek society and culture including slavery, position of women, and the education system among others. In this unit, we will analyze these aspects as they existed in the Roman civilization. At the same time, you will be required to compare and contrast the societies of Greece and Rome to identify the extent of Greek influence.
For instance, both of these civilizations relied on slaves for economic prosperity but Roman slaves lived in conditions harsher than their Greek counterparts. The same applies to Roman women as well. Women in Athens and Sparta had some say in the running of their household but was it the same for Roman women? Additionally, the Romans valued the Greek education system and Greek tutors were hired by wealthy aristocrats to teach their children. Naturally, this influenced the foundation of the Roman civilization but to what extent? Let us find out!
