June 19, 2024

The Research Project itself will be 800 words (minimum) researched critical/literary analysis.
List of works from which to choose (the last section is from the Renaissance
From Ancient Greece:
The Iliad Homer
Oedipus the King Sophocles
From Ancient India:
The Bhagavad-Gita
From the Middle Ages:
The Tale of Genji Murasaki Shikibu
1001 Nights
Beowulf
The Book of the City of Ladies Christine de Pizan
From the Renaissance:
The Prince (Machiavelli)
Don Quixote (Miguel de Cervantes)
Hamlet (Shakespeare)
Once you have chosen the work you wish to write about, please be sure to review
at least 800 words in which you demonstrate critical thinking.  Specifically based on the information given in the literary piece, you will determine a position, explain key aspects of the issues, and further support your position with relevant, adequate evidence from both primary and secondary sources. This might sound vague because it is – I really want to see you choose something you find interesting from the text. For example you could argue that Hamlet goes insane half way through the play of Hamlet or that the theme of love versus betrayal is the most important in the text. You could argue that Gilgamesh’s female characters have more agency compared to the female character in The Iliad. Or any number of things. You are going to want to suggest what you think you are going to write on for this proposal!
INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR PROPOSAL
You will submit this assignment as an attachment (as with other essay assignments). Please include the following:
1) A solid paragraph (or two) which indicates which text you have chosen. Give an explanation as to why you would like to read that selection, and justify your decision by discussing how you want to research the work. This should be at least 200-300 words long.
2) Include at least two preliminary secondary resources that you might use in the final project. These must both be academic sources (and it cannot be Wikipedia or other unreliable source like answers.com or Sparknotes). To show me what you intend to use as research material, you must create an “annotated bibliography.” An annotated bibliography should be formatted as follows:
Center the words “Works Cited” following your typed and double-spaced paragraph. This should be on a new page.
Each source must be cited as you would cite it in a Works Cited page. Following the citation, provide a summary of the contents of the document or article. You cannot copy and paste a summary from the abstract in the Online Resources of the Vaughn library. You must show me that you have at least skimmed and understood the contents of the article. Then, you want to talk about how you think you will use it in the paper. This should be at least five sentences.
PLEASE NO AI GENERATED TEXT
