1.) The Tuskegee Syphilis Study was an ethically abusive study conducted between 1932 and 1972 by the United States Public Health Service and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The purpose of this study was to observe the natural history of untreated syphilis in African American men. From my research, they failed to meet the ethical standards outlined in Salkind’s chapter 3B by first not protecting the people from harm. While they were conducting this experience, to track their progress, they did not provide effective care to these African American participants.
This resulted in sever health problems including blindness, mental impairment, and death. They knew that around the beginning of their study, there were no known treatment for syphilis Although 15 years into their study, penicillin became available and yet they ignored it. Another way in which they failed to meet the ethical standards outlined in Salkind’s chapter 3B was the lack of debriefing. The participants were not informed of the real reason behind the research but was told something different.
They were never going to debrief them until an investigator expressed his concern and did something about it. The golden rule of the Bible is Matthew 7:12, “All things therefore whatsoever ye would that men should do unto you, even so do ye also unto them: for this is the law and the prophets.” It is clear that those who conducted this study wasn’t really thinking about anyone but their studies. I’ sure that they would not want anyone to do to them as they did until these participants.
They lied to them and sat back while they endured very bad consequences. I understand that they were conducting a research, but they failed to meet many of the ethical standards that were outlined in Salkind’s chapter 3B and hurt many in the process. Nix, Elizabeth. 2:) As we discussed in Unit 1, Microsoft Excel is used very widely nowadays by everyone because it is beneficial and it helps in saving much time. It is being used for so many years, and it gets upgraded every year with new features. I continue to believe my skill rating is five because some of the more straightforward uses of Excel can still be complicated if you have not used the formats and formulas.
The most impressive thing about MS Excel is that it can be used anywhere for any work. Appendix D provided basic formats and used; however, one can even do mathematical calculations using this and store essential data in it in the form of charts or spreadsheets.
