The purpose of this presentation is to gather together and compare the similarities and differences between The Government of Georgia and the United States federal Government. While there is a great importance and need for each, after inquiring into both governments, I found that the state government looks deeper into needs of the citizens creating a sense of close nit help allowing a position of meeting the specific needs of individuals in state, while the federal government seems to focus on bigger scaled problems, which isn’t a bad thing, but it can easily in a sense provide indirect relationships with citizens and lump everyone in together. In my school of thought, state government seems to be more effective as it works closer to its citizens and their specific needs.
The Government of Georgia and United States federal government both possess a legislative branch. Both take care of passing, discussing, and creating laws. They are also both able to decipher budget allocations, and the ability to propose amendments in the constitution. On the other hand, there are definitely some contrasts that set the two apart. For example, on a federal scale, a legislative branch works to govern the country, which in contrast Georgia state government shifts their gaze to focus on state issues alone. Additionally, although the Georgia need two thirds majority vote for amendments in the constitution, The united states congress possesses a larger portal or a needed convention requested by two thirds of the state legislature. Both Governments also contrast when it comes to establishing legislative districts, terms, and term restrictions for members, along with the anatomy of positions in power. The Georgia state government may seem to excel in effectiveness when it comes down to recognizing and putting to action solutions for local issue and the US congress holds and important position in governing the entire country. I believe being closer to the citizens is better and creating a space where most can feel like they are being heard make state government more effective in my eyes.
The Executive branch on a both state government and federal government level take up the role of putting laws into action. Additionally, both have a position of leadership in the executive branch. Though both governments have a head of executive branch, they differ in who leads the branch. In the government of Georgia, the governor is the head. On the other hand, in a federal government, the president is the head of the executive branch. Their roles also differ, For example, the Governor of Georgia is responsible for handling and executing state laws, businesses, and works as a kind of commander and chief of the states national guard. On the contrary, looking deeper into the role of the president in an executive branch is to follow through and execute federal laws, take care of foreign affairs, and serve as a leader for the United States military. Also, they also differ in their authority to budget. Both positions are able put forward budgets but, on the federal side the President has the ability to veto budget bills passed by congress. On the contrary, the Governor of Georgia has the power to use line-item veto. I believe the most effective in this regard would be the federal government because of the since of unity under one leader which can prove to be more effective.
The judicial Branch on both a state government and federal government level roles are to looking into the meaning of laws along with applying said law. Both look to secure justice and hold up the rule of law with their jurisdictions, but the two differ in the way that a federal government deals majority with federal laws and constitutional affairs which involve cases with national inference. On the contrary, a judicial branch in Georgia state government focuses on interpreting state laws and the constitution of Georgia which speaks about a variety of civil and criminal affairs inside of state. Both have a variety of court which include trial and appellate courts that are led by a chief of justice. Additionally, the roles of Supreme Court in both the federal and state levels include the interpretation of laws, setting precedents and settling important legal disputes. The State supreme court of Georgia does have cases that are reviewed by the US Supreme court in the event that the case includes federal questions that need federal answers, constitutional affair, or issues in between state along with federal law. I believe that the State government has a more effective judicial branch because of its ability to give fast community justice.
All in all, the overall purpose of the Georgia state government is to manage the state, enforce laws that will guarantee or works towards the wellbeing of Georgia citizens. The federal government’s purpose is to govern the nation and adhere by the constitution and to provide and promote the welfare of its citizens. Similarly, a federal and state government are meant to work for the wellbeing of its citizens, but the two differ on what scale they can do this. A federal government works on a national level while state gov works on a state level. In my own belief, both governments seem to be doing well at meeting their respective roles by making sure to address the needs of their citizens.
