The purpose of this assignment is to gauge your understanding of the concepts discussed throughout the course. Therefore, it is crucial that you discuss your opinions of your chosen topic/concept covered in class in a specific manner making sure to utilize specific examples from course readings, lectures, and other outside resources to support your claims.
Remember – this is a research paper. You should NOT just be writing a simple summary of the topic. For this assignment, YOU are the expert; showcase your knowledge of what you’ve learned throughout the semester to inform the reader on a specific research question you’ve developed.
Ideally, this assignment will provide you with a sample of academic writing you can submit to university applications or other instances where an official writing sample must be submitted.
Instructions
At the beginning of the semester, you were instructed to review the topics on the syllabus, and brainstorm possible concepts you’d like to explore more in the study of aging and adulthood in human development.
While this paper is more exploratory in nature, I have asked for you to be very specific on your topic and develop a clear focus (i.e. developing a research question, predominant stated aim for research, etc.). After developing this focus, write a research paper using the guidelines below.
Formatting Specifics
Contrary to popular belief, research papers can come in all shapes and sizes. To help you develop a more specific idea of what you should submit, here are some basic formatting specifics:
Research papers typically are formatted according to the type of citation. Please use the citation style you are most familiar with.
Upload your research paper in PDF or DOC format. Please do not upload a Google Doc link, they do not work. If you have questions of how to make your file a PDF or official DOC, you can find this by doing a search on the internet.
Font: Cambria or Times New Roman
Font Size: 12
Line Spacing: double-spaced
Word Count: around 1,650 – 2,250 words (you can go over this amount if needed) – not including Works Cited / Bibliography
I try not to limit you too much in terms of format too much; I am mainly looking for you to provide strong critical analysis. This means that you must stretch beyond the obvious and showcase what you’ve learned in the class. Simply providing a summary will not satisfy this assignment.
