The purpose of this assignment is to allow students to demonstrate sociological

April 28, 2024

The purpose of this assignment is to allow students to demonstrate sociological knowledge by applying sociological concepts to film. The learning objectives and outcomes they assess can be found in each individual movie assignment, since they all assess different aspects of the course.

Instructions:
For this final exam project you will choose which movie you would like to write about. Below are summaries of six movies (all summaries come from Rotten Tomatoes) and a brief presentation of what the main theme of the questions will be.

The title for each movie is a hyper link to a page where I provide you with more information about the questions, and at the top of that page is a link to the Word document you can use for formatting your answers. Review the summaries and questions and decide which one you would like to do and submit your paper by the final paper due date that is on your schedule. There is a two day late submission period for half credit.

The 6 movies have an active hyperlink to stream them, or you can find them on a streaming service if you don′t want to use the library link. They are also available on DVD on reserve at the Dale Mabry campus library if you prefer to watch them that way. There is a sample paper attached to this assignment so you can review what I′m looking for. Some movies require additional readings these documents are attached to this assignment; each movie page will list the title of the document that is necessary.

To avoid penalties for short answers I recommend you have at minimum 200 words per answer: NOT including the actual question you are responding to. Each answer should:

follow the rules of Standard Written English paragraph formatting Links to an external site. for grammar and punctuation.
NOT be one long paragraph.
Be double spaced, with a font of either Arial or Times New Roman 12
Have a 1 inch margin.
Any references used are properly cited.
There are additional instructions on the attached Word documents regarding the content of your answers. You should pay special attention to paragraph size. A normal paragraph should not be more than 5 to 7 sentences and you should break your answer into different paragraphs based on your main ideas. For example, the definition should be a paragraph and the application a separate paragraph. Answers that are all one paragraph will be penalized up to 2 points per answer. See the example movie paper attached to this assignment.

Each question is it′s own answer and is worth 20 points for a total of 100 points. The best way to ensure you get the best grade is to use the Word document provided and put your answer in the space after each question. But make sure you follow proper paragraph formatting, etc. Some students just post one really long paragraph which is not correct format and will cost you at least 2 points per question. You will receive a grade pursuant to the following:

Up 5 points for detailed definitions of the concepts,
this means more than just one sentence for the definition and
a clear illustration that you understand the concept by providing real world examples.
You do not have to use any external references for the definitions (references other than those provided on the resource pages), I am looking that you understand the concepts, but if you do offer an ″official″ definition make sure you properly cite the material, even the items on the resource page.
Up to 10 points for specific examples from the film for all concepts in the question,
specific means desсrіption of a particular scene, character, or event that meets the definition requirement,
or narration of an over arching idea that fits the parameters. The key word is specific. I need to be able to see that you didn′t get your knowledge of the film from the Internet, or from sites like ″Course Hero″ that may provide answers to some of these questions.
Up to 5 points for paragraph formatting, spelling, grammar, etc.
If your answer is too short that is up to 3 points depending on how short it is, if it is only a little short it will be 1 point but if it is less than 200 words it will be up to 3 points.
Spelling/grammar/punctuation is up to 2 points depending on how many errors there are.
Other items that could count as part of this grade is if I cannot tell where one answer begins and the next one ends. This is why I recommend using the provided Word document and separate each answer by the question.
Paragraphs that are longer than 7 sentences will be penalized by at minimum 2 points per question, for a possible overall deduction of 10 points
