The purpose is that research is being done on the roundworm “C. elegans.” We’re trying to see if exposure of a sample of the roundworms to a gene that increases alcohol resistance (group is called the NPR-1) actually increases alcohol resistance compared to a sample of the roundworms that was not exposed to the gene (group is called “WT” or wild type.) We can figure out how both the NPR-1 and WT worms react by counting the thrashes of their tail when they are exposures in a control solution, a 1% alcohol solution, a 5% alcohol solution, and a 10% alcohol solution.  The lab manual included lists the background and the information you need to complete the research paper. You should focus your attention on pages 4-6 for intro and background using the material to get a general idea and finding more research to expand on linking the research to how it can be used for the human race. Then use the pages of the manual up to page 14 to guide the rest of your work.
INSTRUCTIONS
This is meant to be written as a lab report-style composition. It should have split segments of the report consisting of the:
1. Introduction
-gives details about the background of the organism (C. elegans. of the class Chromadorea and the phylum Nematoda.)
-the background and past research must be thoroughly listed so the project’s point and focus can be established. (see the lab manual provided for the background info)
-what is the significance of the class?
-Why is the ability to see alcohol resistance traits important for the C. elegans? How could this potentially affect humans research?
-What would we expect to see? Hypothesis?
2. Procedure/materials and methods
-observations
-detailed narrative following the instructions of the procedures given in the document attached.
3. Results/observations
-what did we see?
-do not conclude here
-include the graphs and use the data provided in the excel document. “according to the data in table 1, we can see…”
4. Conclusion/discussion
-because of this _____ we can conclude _____ because of (a), (b), and (c). This is where we can conclude based off our results. Also can prove our points with research articles and stuff
5. Include all citations, references, and sources.
It needs to be written scientifically and to the point. This website is a good resource if needed:
