The project is focused on offering an applied project in financial management. You are expected to apply what you’ve learned in financial analysis (week 12-14, plus the guest lecture) to analyze a government or a not-for-profit organization’s financial condition and make suggestions for improvement in an approximately five pages double-spaced memo, not including tables, charts, or other exhibits.
Detailed instructions:
Identify an existing organization with some available financial documents, preferably audited financial statements, SEC filings, annual reports, and/or form 990s. Using those documents and comparing to other documents, either prior periods for the selected organization or from peer organizations, (1) identify key elements of its financial condition; this should include some forms of ratio analysis and may include other relevant forms of analysis; (2) based on this analysis, make recommendations or policy responses for how the organization might improve its financial position; (3) lastly, assess recommendations/policy responses with an interpretation of their contexts (e.g., political, economic, or community context).
To successfully complete this assignment, I have a few suggestions and /or requirements:
You are expected to word the analysis as if you are advising a senior manager of the organization in question. Clarity of writing and argumentation is important.
If you are going to analyze the organization by comparing it to prior periods, a two-year comparison is good enough. If you are going to compare the organization to its peers, please select one peer organization, justify comparability between the two, and compare their financial conditions in the same year.
In regards to ratio anlaysis, please select at least four to five appropriate financial ratios to analyze the financial conditions for selected organization(s).**It’s ok to continue to analyze financial condition for city of Tallahassee in 2018 and 2019 .
The analysis should be accurate and relevant. Please demonstrate equations for ratio calculations.
Any exhibits such as tables, graphs, charts, etc. should be relevant and supporting the analysis. It’s better to have these exhibits in the body of the memo.
Your recommendations must be feasible and logically follow from your analysis.
Make sure all the citations are in APA, Chicago style or MLA.
