Then for this paper you will connect the ideas of race through an intersectional lens. What ethnic groups exist in your family today and for the past several generations? How about your extended family? Cousins? Second. cousins? Your community? What difference does time and place make to this? For example, if you have “white” relatives, how long ago were they not “white” but German or Irish or Italian and what shifted to create what/who. they are now? What does the book say about this? The videos? How does any of this connect with the documentary “13”? Does it?

By discuss, I mean: Express your own thoughts in response to the key concepts, ideas, and information from this. reading. In what ways does it make sense to you? In what ways does it seem significant to broader societal issues? In what ways does it shift the perspective of the ways in which many people think? Etc. In what ways can you put these readings “in dialogue” with other things you’ve learned, in other courses, through your own experiences, with what you’ve learned from social media, popular culture, and news media, etc?
