The paper is expected to examine “The Complete
Persepolis” by Marjane Satrapi, in
light of all the knowledge,
theoretical, critical, and historical that we will have
accumulated in the course. The paper is expected to follow a coherent/logical structure that consists of:
1) A concise introduction
2) A clear articulation of a research thesis (Provided below)
3) The historical background of the creative work (i.e. comic or graphic novel)
4) A review of at least three secondary sources
that students should carefully select and evaluate. Make sure the sources are creditable and scholarly.
5) A well-reasoned
demonstration/argument of how these secondary sources support the development of the research thesis
6) A conclusion

Marjane Satrapi’s graphic memoir, The Complete Persepolis, serves as a powerful narrative that explores the
theme of female submission within the context of Iranian society, while also
depicting the ways in which women challenge and subvert oppressive systems.
Through an analysis of Satrapi’s portrayal of female characters, their
experiences of marginalization, and their acts of resistance, this thesis aims
to unravel the complex dynamics of submission and agency, ultimately
illustrating how The Complete Persepolis dismantles patriarchal structures and
empowers women to assert their autonomy and voice.
