The overall goal of this assignment is to empower students to become societal change
agents through the application of the triple bottom line framework. As entrepreneurs,
students will develop a practical understanding of the challenges faced when running a
“truly” socially responsible fashion business. By applying the triple bottom line
framework into their business, they will create value for all stakeholders. Today, it is
important for retailers to establish a sustainable strategy that positively impacts the
environment and society while driving value. The student driven business plan and pitch
video should challenge the status quo to increase the competitive positioning of the
proposed socially responsible fashion retailer.
II Deliverable
A. Ten-page power point slide presentation and a 90 second pitch video.
B. In groups of 2-4 student, students should think of this business plan as a digital book
emailed to stakeholders versus a classroom presentation.
C. For each slide make sure you deliver the information with minimal text and bold
images. Do not change the slide order or add additional slides. Try your hardest to
incorporate the most important information on each slide. (This could be challenging but
do your best.)
D. References should include a minimum of five scholarly and reliable resources are to
be cited using proper APA formatting. Scholarly and reliable resources can be found in
the LIM Library. Cite references using proper APA formatting. In-text citations and photo
credits must be included. All references should be on slide 10, and submitted each

1. The title page should establish the brand image and company identity visually.

conscious, brand loyal, frequency of shopping, impulse or planned shoppers? How
important is it to your customer to make purchases from a socially-responsible
fashion retailer?
2. Demographics-Include age, gender, salary, occupation, education, and all related
demographic information. Define your customer by using PRIZM Clusters or Tapestry
Segments.
3. Psychographics-Discuss attitudes, beliefs, and/or values of the customer, and
define using VALS framework.

A. Sustainable Strategy-4th Slide
1. Select three aspirational goals relative to the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs). The Global Goals should be identified in the fashion
retailer’s sustainable strategy. Strategically identify and apply these three UN
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to the operations of your retailer.

2. Clearly state the retailer’s socially responsible business practices.
Example: Etsy is a carbon neutral online retailer. If you plan to promote your
brand on Etsy, your company is contributing to environmental stewardship.
Example: Perhaps your company’s products will be made from upcycled clothing.

3. What Design for Environment (DfE) strategies will you apply to the development
and sourcing of your products? List a minimum of two and specify how you would
execute this strategy. (This information is extremely important)
4. Identify the dimension(s) of the Triple Bottom Line strategy that will differentiate the
socially responsible fashion retailer from their competition. How do the policies
proposed positively impact each sphere of the model (people, planet, profit) resulting
in the development of a truly sustainable fashion business? What will be the Key
Performance Indicators (KPIs) for each? The key performance indicators will help
explain how your company is taking care of the people that work for them all through
their supply chain, how their processes are safe for the environment and while they
are doing this, they still can be profitable.
B. Industry Segment and Market Analysis-5th Slide
1. Provide an overview of the industry and segment of the industry that the proposed
business will be entering. Examples: Womenswear, Menswear, Accessories,
Footwear, Cosmetics, Home Furnishings, etc. Provide data about this industry
segment like, who are the major players, what are the business trends, not fashion
trends, in this industry? (Use the LIM Library data bases for this information.)
2. Include an overview of the industry structure. Is it comprised of by a few large
global conglomerates? Or many small local retailers? (Use the LIM Library data
bases for this information.)
3. Which major brands, manufacturers, and designers within the segment are the
proposed company’s competition. Provide specific details about where your brand fits
in this segment. (Use the LIM Library data bases for this information.)
C. Competitive Analysis-6th Slide
1. This section considers the competition generally and specifically related to your
location, product and services offered. Look towards smaller start up brands as your
competitors instead of the larger brands.
2. Conduct a SWOT analysis of 3 competitors. Strengths and weaknesses are
internal factors and opportunities and threats are external factors. Be sure to consider
socially responsible business practices in the analysis.
3. The SWOT assists in determining what will make the proposed socially
responsible fashion retailer stand out from the competition. Clearly state the
competitive advantage of the proposed company. What makes your company stand
out or different than the rest?

be truly “socially responsible” and to incorporate feasible practices within your
business plan.
2. Show your climate action plan with a roadmap or small infographic highlighting the
visionary goals you are also working towards and steps to get there.
C. Marketing Strategy-9th Slide
1. Detail the overall strategy to generate revenue and promote your socially
responsible fashion business.
2. Define the marketing mix of promotional strategies including advertising, public
relations, social media and sales promotions. What marketing vehicles will be used?
(Digital, social, print, etc.) Be specific.
D. References-10th Slide
