The late Medieval period leads into the Renaissance! For your Final Paper, you will choose 2 artworks to compare from different time periods.
The first piece of art should be from between 1400 and 1600 (the Renaissance!)
Choose a second piece of art from before 1300 (from any period we have covered)
Talk about how the 2 works are connected. Possible connections could be:
Theme (are they both about tragedy, both about fighting for what you believe in?)
Subject matter (do they show the same story, the same person, a similar story, a particular symbol?)
Reference (Does the later work reference an earlier artwork, how?)
Reaction (Does the later work react against the earlier artwork, how?)
Compare and contrast the works. How are they similar/ how are they different? Think about what the artist’s motivation is, and what the goals are with the work. What are they trying to communicate to the viewer? How? Why? Also think about how the historical context (the time period and social conditions) influenced the work.
