The Green New Deal was first introduced in 2019 by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY) and Senator Edward Markey (NY). After failing to advance in the Senate, the two reintroduced the bill in 2023.  As we have seen, the Green New Deal is a plan to redevelop American industry and infrastructure to address climate change. Supporters of the bill argue that it will create jobs and help to prevent climate catastrophe. Opponents of the bill argue that it is unrealistic and that it will cost the U.S. government too much money. 
Your Task 
Write a 5-6 page argumentative essay that takes a position on the topic of climate change and the Green New Deal. Your paper must cite at least two of the articles we studied in class AND it must also include your own additional research. It must also include a naysayer or a counterclaim.  
Suggested Topics 
Argue that the Green New Deal is necessary/unnecessary
Argue that the Green New Deal is effective or ineffective for addressing climate change.
Argue whether the Green New Deal is realistic or unrealistic. 
Requirements
