disasters, and other risk management failures. Consider writing a case study on a strategy that
successfully mitigated risk. Argue for change, make a
compelling argument for government regulation, make a compelling argument for deregulation,or persuade industry leaders to adopt different methods
My abstract: Taking a closer look
at the early 2021 GameStop incident serves as a good case study to examine risk
occurrences as well as responses in the financial markets. In addition to being
able to peer behind the scenes into what went wrong and what should have been
anticipated, it allows us to learn from this experience. This article explores
the GameStop narrative, with a focus on the risk event that was created by a
concerted effort on social media platforms by retail investors, leading to a
significant rise in the stock price of the struggling video game retailer. The
reactions that followed from a wide range of stakeholders including regulators,
brokerage houses, and hedge funds showcase both the effectiveness and failure
of current risk management practices. According to this study, although the
catastrophe revealed shortcomings in conventional risk management methods, it
also showed the value of community involvement and the need for flexible risk
management strategies in today’s dynamic financial environments.
