The final paper is a chance for students to exercise the knowledge and skills learned in this class. This paper will require students to utilize the themes, tools, and perspectives studied in this course to present the place and related topic/issue from the research proposal.
Final: Based on the place and issue/topic chosen in your research proposal, write a brief essay discussing your interpretation of some aspects of its landscape history, using themes, tools, and perspectives we have studied in class. The paper should successfully tell a story that will explain to the reader how this place came to have the shape and qualities it has today. You should think of this paper as an exercise in historical, geographical, and environmental interpretation, asking you to read a small patch of landscape as a document of past social and environmental change. Your paper should illustrate one or more of the important themes covered in the course. So think carefully about which course themes can help you to interpret the history of your place, and which aspects of your place can illustrate the themes of the course.
Google Slide: Each student will be required to design a (1) “scrapbook-style” slide about their research topic on a collective presentation linked below. This way, everyone may see and learn what their peers are researching. This will also be a chance to exercise creative liberty, as students are encouraged to include photos along with main points and/or quotes from their paper
the project proposal has been attached so if you could write the paper and slides around that. there are also citations to scholarly articles you can use. feel free to add any other sources you need.
