The final essay is formal Chicago-style essay, 1500-2000 words in length with correct footnotes, bibliography, and cover page. THE FOOTNOTES IS NOT PART OF THE WORD COUNT. There are no rewrites on the final and any essay that contains plagiarism or does not meet the minimum word count will receive a zero in the gradebook.
in the first paragraph, you must provide a clear thesis that answers the question, at least three proofs, and a concluding idea that tells the reader what they learn from reading the essay. Never use “I think” or “I believe” because that makes the essay an opinion, not an argument.
You must include at least two footnotes, not an MLA in-text citation. To format in MS-Word, place the curser after the period in the sentence containing an author’s idea, direct quote, or specific number, not including dates. Click on “References,” Choose “Chicago” style, and click the “Insert Footnote” button. This will create a small number 1 in the body paragraph, a line at the bottom of page, and small number 1 under the line. Use the “Citation Guide” found in the “Class Introduction” to format the citation. You should not use the phrase, “The author stated…” This is your argument, not the author’s.
The paragraph must be written completely in the past tense, spelled correctly, with all proper nouns capitalized, and only active verbs.
