i hve written the paper but it wasnt enough. So i asked the teacher which aspects should be taken in consideration. here is her answer:” the problem with your paper corresponds to the fears I already expressed when you chose this topic: it has no significant correspondence to what we studied in class. So you got more than 2/3ds of the vote I could give you for your independent research, but lack the third that is usually awarded for the critical use of concepts and theories presented in class. This because if you write something without any relation to the course then I cannot grade the fact that you followed it, studied the topics and learned to use them.
The problem of Switzerland and the EU concerns the theory of an Optimal Currency Area and the literature on trading areas that we do not address in class (not enough time!). Furthermore it has to do with banking regulation etc.
The twist you could have given to the paper was to analyse Switzerland as a national case in respect to globalisation (as I suggested). Switzerland choose free trade above entering a specific trading area and coped with globalisation issues without the umbrella of the EU. Was it successful? The data that we had on Switzerland in class proved that it ranks among the most competitive countries in the world. Why? How?
You could also have tackled the problems connected with migration/immigration. You refer in passing to the fact that one of the main obstacles to joining the EU would have been the potential migration from EU states, an issue to be analysed in connection with the demographic trend of Switzerland, the push-pull model etc.
