April 22, 2024

The critical assignment is the capstone assignment for this course and is designed to assess your overall understanding of the material presented throughout the course. Success with the critical assignment will signify your mastery of the course learning goals: e valuate and analyze the general concept of cognitive psychology and its value for society  (goal #1), a nalyze the concepts of sensation and perception and apply the concepts to real life scenarios  (goal #2),   analyze the concept of memory and apply the concept to real life scenarios  (goal #3), analyze the concept of language  and apply the concept to real life scenarios  (goal#4) ,   analyze the concepts of learning and problem solving  and apply the concept to real life scenarios  (goal #5), and i dentify one’s values, biases, and belief systems, and evaluate their impact on the study of cognitive psychology  (goal #6).  Success with the critical assignment will require your use of all the reading materials required through the course as well as the supplemental videos and instructor’s comments.
Please create an 18-slide Power Point presentation addressing an overview of cognitive psychology using the situation described in the next paragraph.  There should be 16 slides of text, plus a title slide and a reference slide.  Each slide should contain 5-6 bullet points of content (complete sentences are not necessary, but the bullet points should each contain enough text to sufficiently communicate your thoughts).  Each slide should contain examples and also visual graphics to enhance the presentation.  Please follow the guidelines below to structure your presentation.
Assume you have a child in elementary school, and you are an active member of the parent/teacher association (PTA). Many people know you and that you are studying psychology. Other parents and teachers often approach you and want your opinion about a cognitive psychological issue they are noticing with their children or students. For example, a 2nd grade teacher recently asked for your opinion about a student who consistently struggles with attention. Another teacher recently asked for your advice about a 5th grade student whose speech and language skills seem delayed. A fellow parent has an elderly family member who suddenly seems incapable of making decisions or solving basic daily problems.
To help the elementary school PTA with these types of questions and concerns, you will create a power point slideshow.  The slideshow should provide an overview of cognitive psychology and how it applies to a variety of situations. Details about the requirements are provided below.
The presentation should include graphics to enhance the visual quality. It should also include a total of at least 3 peer-reviewed academic sources.  These sources should be cited throughout the presentation in APA format and organized in an APA-formatted reference list.
Here is an overview of the 18 slides you will create:
Slide 1: title slide
Slide 2: introduction to cognitive psychology (5-6 bullet points discussing the basic idea of cognitive psychology and how it effects all people)
Slides 3-5: sensation and perception (5-6 bullet points per slide discussing what these concepts are and how they effect people; specific examples should be included)
Slides 6-8: memory (5-6 bullet points per slide discussing what this concept is and how it effects people; specific examples should be included)
Slides 9-11: language (5-6 bullet points per slide discussing what this concept is and how it effects people; specific examples should be included)
Slides 12-14: learning and problem solving (5-6 bullet points per slide discussing what these concepts are and how they effect people; specific examples should be included)
Slides 15-17: faith integration (5-6 bullet points per slide discussing your personal ideas about how cognitive psychology fits/doesn’t fit with the Christian faith, how you believe cognition affects the Body of Christ; supporting verses should be included)
Slide 18: references
Your presentation should be in proper APA format (if you are unsure of APA formatting, please reference the materials provided in the Week 0 learning activity). Your presentation should include at least 5 peer-reviewed references, which should be cited throughout the slides.  You are welcome to use the McBride, Cutting, & Zimmerman (2023) text and any published journal articles. Websites are not considered valid references in academic work. A great place to find peer-reviewed journal articles is the Social Sciences Full Text database provided through the CBU library website: https://calbaptist.edu/library/databases/ A grading rubric is attached for your review:
