The book “Pageboy: a Memoir” by Elliot Page traces his life
growing up in Canada and becoming a movie start. His book also traces
his gender transition. For this paper, I want you to use his story to
illustrate concepts we go over in this class. I’m not looking for a book
review. I want you to write a paper on the complexity of gender and
sexuality and use his stories as examples of the concepts we talk about
in class.
We cover a lot of topics in this course, but this is a list of some
of the major issue we talk about that should find their place in your
paper.
Gender and sex
Gender identity (including gender rules, strategies, policing, intersectionality, masculinity, and femininity.)
How gender is institutionalized
Sexuality and sexual culture
Complexities in gender and sex at work, family, and politics.
Example thesis: “Elliot Page’s life experiences mirrors many of the complexities of gender and sexuality today.”
Feel free to focus on three or four of the areas or concepts we talk
about in this class. The overall goal of your writing is to further
explore the ideas in the class by looking at a case study. In the end,
make sure to show me that you understand the concepts and have read the
book.
The paper should be:
