It is important to remind ourselves that our interpretation of knowledge, and our academic and professional practice, are profoundly shaped by our lived experiences. You have had the opportunity to reflect on particular perspectives about vocation from lectures and noted readings. One person cannot say all there is to say on any given topic or issue. This assignment encourages you to further engage the experience of vocation by offering critical reflection on additional perspectives which should be considered. Do ensure that your writing is reflective of, and relevant to, your own path and practice. Below are some things to consider as you craft your contribution: What role do systemic and structural factors play in a person’s ability to discern, and embody, their vocation? Share how such factors have impacted your own journey. There is a critique that vocation is the luxury of those with privilege and resources. Do you agree or disagree with such a critique? Explain your perspective and reasoning. Discussions about vocation can be very individual-centric. In your perspective what is the value and contribution of community, if any, to vocation Buechner defines vocation as “the place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” Is it possible, however, that a person’s “deep hunger” is met through her/his own vocation? In other words, what nourishment or enrichment do we receive in the vocational journey? You may share any further perspectives that you think are important to consider in relation to vocations of healing. Length & Formatting: Assignment submissions should be a minimum of 1.5 pages (double-spaced). Use Times New Roman font and font size 12. Margins should be 1 inch all around. There is no need to include your name, date, professor’s name on the first page of the assignment (canvas timestamps all assignment submissions so this is not necessary). If you feel strongly about including your name on the assignment, then place this in the header or footer part of your word document so it does not take up space on the page proper.
