Specific Instructions For Each Chapter’s Assignment:
NOTE: All of your chapter assignments should be double spaced with top, bottom, and side one-inch margins.
Your report should include information from the following two or three sections or parts below, depending on which option you select. Please DO type each section’s number and name as you begin each Part of the assignment, then type your responses to each part of your assignment.
For example: Part 1: Chapter Summary—(then begin typing your comments for this part on the same line), etc. Each Part of your assignment should begin on a new line.
—————-
Part 1: Chapter Summary—Begin typing your comments on the same line. For Part 1 of your assignment, summarize what you learned from reading the entire chapter. More specifically, what are some of the key themes, concepts, and principles that you learned when reading this chapter? Part 1 should be approximately 2 ½ pages in length. Your discussion should be in full sentences and paragraphs format. Warning: Do NOT type your information verbatim (word for word) as in the textbook. Type what you learned in your own words. Each paragraph in this section should contain approximately 6 to 7 comprehensive sentences.
Important NOTE: In summarized writing, you are only stating (in our own words) some of the major points or ideas that you learned from reading the chapter. DO NOT include your personal opinion or experiences, your interpretation, or your own thoughts about what you read when writing your chapter summary.
Part 2: Management Application—Begin typing your comments on the same line that you type “Part 2”: (Your comments in this section should be in two paragraphs.) Each of the paragraphs in this section should contain between 6 and 7 comprehensive sentences.
(1) Discuss (in the first paragraph) what you learned in this entire chapter that will help you to become a more effective leader. (2) Discuss (in the second paragraph) how you would apply the information you learned in this chapter to manage, motivate, and/or encourage others, etc. more successfully.
NOTE: When you complete Parts 1 and 2 your paper should be at least 3 full pages in length—or more.
Part 3: Chapter Application Features—Each chapter contains five in- chapter and end-of-chapter application features that are designed to enhance your learning. For each chapter you are required to select four (4) of the features from the list below to submit work from.
Important Note: Before beginning each feature, type the specific name of the feature and the ebook page number of your selected feature first. Then complete the task required in the specific feature as mentioned above.
Those features include:
Leadership Snapshot (located in the body of the chapter—not at the end of the chapter)—Type the name of the feature and page number first: Summarize in two paragraphs (that contain six or seven comprehensive sentences) what you learned from reading this snapshot.
Case Study —*Although each chapter contains two case studies, each case counts as one feature — Read the case study carefully. Type the name of the feature and page number first: (1) Summarize it in one paragraph that contains six or seven comprehensive sentences. (2) Then type each specific question number and the actual question. (3) Type your answer to that specific question.
Leadership-Related Questionnaire — Type the name of the feature and page number first: (1) Complete the questionnaire. (2) Identify your score for each component of the questionnaire. (3) Identify the scoring interpretation for your questionnaire. (4) Discuss in one paragraph, that contains six or seven comprehensive sentences, what you learned about yourself from completing the questionnaire and how the information will be helpful to you.
Observational Exercise — Type the name of the feature and page number first: (1) Complete the observation. (2) Type each specific question number and then the actual question. (3) Type your answer to each specific question. (4) Discuss in one paragraph, that contains six or seven comprehensive sentences, what you learned from this observation exercise.
Reflection And Action Worksheet — Type the name of the feature and page number first: Complete both the Reflection and the Action sections. For each section (1) Type each specific question number and then the actual question. (2) Type your answer to that specific question. (3) Discuss in one paragraph, that contains six or seven comprehensive sentences, what you learned from this reflection exercise.

Additional Guidelines Information:
1. I recommend that you save all homework assignments that you submit until the course is over.
2. Your assignments must be submitted as a “Word” document or a document that is compatible with the Brightspace system so that I can open and read it. Do not submit your homework as a zipped file. Lastly, all homework MUST be submitted in the course. No homework can be accepted if you send it to me via email.
3. For each of your assignments, type the following information (horizontally—all on the same line) at the top of the first page (one inch from the top):
Your Name—Homework ___of 3—Chapter number and name
For example:
Mary Jane Jones—Homework 2 of 3—Ch 5—Developing Leadership Skills
After typing the above heading, skip one line (by hitting your return key only one time) and begin typing your homework.
NOTE: Your assignment should be double spaced and typed with a size 12 font, with one inch top, bottom, and side margins. Also, your assignment should have one inch top, bottom, and side margins—-just like this document that you are currently reading.
Additional key points to remember:
In Part 1 of your assignment, there is no need to say “I learned…” when typing your homework…simply read the information and summarize, in your own words, what you learned from reading that information. As noted above, in summarized writing, you are only stating (in our own words) some of the major points or ideas from information you learned when reading the chapter. DO NOT include your personal opinion or experiences, your interpretation, or your own thoughts about what you read.
Also, PARAPHRASE all your summaries.  In other words, DO NOT WRITE THE EXACT information just as it is stated in the textbook.  Read the material in the book and then reword your comments by putting them in your own words what you learned.   This technique helps to develop your critical thinking skills and writing skills.  Valuable points will be deducted from your assignment if you forget to paraphrase your work.
Since this report is already double spaced, DO NOT skip an extra line between paragraphs.
For the purpose of this assignment, make sure that each paragraph is only between 6 – 7 detailed sentences—no longer.
Write your report in complete sentences and paragraphs. Do not write incomplete statements, bullet point items, outlines, etc.
Please number each page of your assignment.
Submit each assignment for a chapter during the week that we are scheduled to read that chapter, according to our Course Schedule.
While we all make occasional typographical or grammatical errors when typing (including me), as Business and Management students, it is essential that you learn and practice excellent proofreading skills. As such, please proofread your work carefully after you have typed each assignment and then correct your errors. This habit will serve you well as your career evolves and you are put in positions where you are required to create written hardcopy and/or electronic documents that are disseminated to others in the workplace.
After I read each homework assignment, I will post your points in the Grade Center.
Although I will provide you with feedback on some of your chapter assignments, I also want to give you some idea of the value I place on the points you receive for each assignment.
