Term Paper: Term paper will carry 16% weightage; topics must be related to the course.
Students are encouraged to carry out work (field, lab, or computer-related studies) related to
Earth sciences. Each o n e w i l l be asked to make a presentation in the class using power
points, and each student must submit their term paper (similar to a research paper)
(the content of the term paper, summary, Introduction, data, methodology, results, and discussion,
conclusion and references, one may include figures, tables, photos, and graphs). One should
not copying from others, new materials not covered in the class must be used.
Term paper like a research paper, a total of 10 pages including figures and tables (double spaced,
font type TIMES NEW ROMAN, Font size 12, pages must be numbered) typed in Microsoft
Word (not using MAC in Pages), one can insert figures and tables. If you use tables and figures,
they must be numbered and discussed in the text. Source of figures and tables must be included
below the figure(s) and Table. You must consist of real data from various sources; from this data, you can generate plots that can be included in your term paper. You will be given extra credit if you use
accurate data to create plots. All the figures/tables and pages
used in the TERM paper must be numbered, and one must include sources of figures and tables.
The deadline for the term paper online submission on the last day of the class on 8 May 2024,
each person must also submit their term paper in a Word file (NO Pages – Mac format) or PDF
through Gmail (ramesh.*****************)
Students are encouraged to meet me online and discuss their topics for term papers. One must
start working on the term paper from the very beginning.
Some of the topics of the term paper must be related to Earth Systems (Land, Ocean,
Atmosphere, Cryosphere, all kinds of Natural Hazards, Earth features, and interaction
between Earth, Ocean, and Atmosphere).
You are encouraged to use accurate data from various sources or government agencies.
Moreover, make your plots; such efforts will be awarded, and extra credit will be given.
Grading of Term paper:
The following points will be considered in the grading of a Term paper:
The content of the TERM paper must be arranged as follows:
▪ Title and author (your) name – must reflect the content of your TERM paper – 5
points
▪ Abstract- 100 words – 10 points
▪ Overall format of the word file (alignment, page no, the inclusion of Figures, and
Tables) 10 points
▪ Introduction: giving importance to the topic and objectives. And the relevance to the
Course – 15 points
▪ Data used: data products, resolution, sources of data, weblink – 5 points
▪ Results and Discussion: must be arranged in different subheadings – 20
▪ Figures and Tables – good quality figures and tables with proper citations must
be included. Figures must be numbered, and sources must be included. If you

▪ In the Introduction – include some related work on the topic with citations of
work published in the Journal. All the cited references must be given in the list of
