Hint:
Completion of your assignments in this course is meant to trigger a thoughtful process. They are meant to challenge you. You are not meant to be able to just find a quick answer (like many of you can do in the quizzes). They are about developing critical reading, thinking, and analytical skills, based on understanding the materials through your weekly work: your reading, your viewing and thinking about the videos and the flashcards and the PowerPoints and the Learning Curve quizzes – these tools will give you the materials to think critically about what you hear and read.
After listening to the talk and reading the text, ask yourself what chapter seems most well suited to help you understand and critique the talk. Then ask yourself why you think so. You would have to look at the main point of the talk, as well the speaker’s main area of expertise, and then how the point(s) in the talk are similar to and then expand or are different from the chapter information on that topic.
You have to dig a little deeper to get to a good critical look at what is the same in each and how the talk expands or is different from the text.
Paraphrase rather than use direct quotes in your work as this shows me that you understand the point being made. Remember that you still have to cite your sources when you paraphrase.
Finally, a reminder that your personal reflections are not a place to talk about others or generally what the talk is about. It is about your feelings and thoughts. Take a careful look at the guidelines in the instructions I provided for what to include.
