Teacher’s Directions:
The final written assignment in this class is a 5-page paper
in which students will be asked to identify a contemporary social problem related to mental illness and to
discuss, using evidence from class and academic literature available on the topic, how the sociological
approach to the study of mental health/illness might help us to 1) better understand the context of the
problem and 2) attempt to solve or address the problem. Additionally, students will be asked to consider
limitations to or challenges posed by the sociological approach and to discuss potential strategies for
overcoming them. Papers are to be written (and sources cited) following ASA or APA format. MAKE SURE SOURCES ARE PEER REVIEWED.

Topic:
I wanted to do my paper’s topic on social media’s affects on women’s mental health and body image. Or just society and women’s body image/eating disorders affects on mental health. Anything to do with those topics.
