Tasks:
To complete this assignment, your research will be on drug, history, production, and trade in Colombia. Your research must focus on one country only,
not the region(s).
Project Outline : One typed page (not including references), 12-point font, 1-inch margins on all sides
including,
a. Country/Topic (Colombia) and possible paper title,
b. Thesis statement (must be clear and address the topic you selected),
c. Main points (must relate to the thesis statement and clearly indicate how you will use the selected readings to support your points),
d. References cited: must include at least two (2) given attached references and five (5) additional
references to outside readings (these must be from academic journals or books). References must be
listed on a separate page following the MLA style
Paper organization: An essential aspect of any research paper is the text organization, that is, presenting
your research work and ideas in a way that helps the reader understand how and why you reached a
particular conclusion or solution. Your paper must be organized following the seven (7) topic sequence
listed:
1 Country location and physical geography
2 Prehistoric and Colonial Drugs
3 Current Drug Production and Trade
4 Drug-related Political Issues
5 Drug-related Economic Issues
6 Drug-related Cultural Changes
7 Proposed Solutions
Text and Image Sources: Given the level of broad speculation and falsified claims made on the internet,
websites are extremely unreliable to use in this research. Therefore, it is recommended to abstain from
using internet sources, which disguise their faultiness by providing selective references to some scholarly
research. The use of Google Scholar or any other library database to search for scholarly articles is
encouraged but avoid relying only on Google searches to research topics about Latin America. Links to
reliable web sources are listed in the Blackboard shell for this course. In addition, your paper must include
text and any additional audiovisual material that may support or enhance the content under discussion. I
encourage students to include maps to orient your audience, images, and videos to illustrate cultural
landscapes, and tables for quantifiable data. Keep in mind that quantitative measurements about foreign
locations are meaningless unless they are framed within comparative statements about familiar places. For
example, you can compare the statistical data for your country with that of the United States. Figures,
maps, and tables only do not count toward the minimum pages required.
