Task- write a fully original titled 5 plus page essay based upon your own ideas and our class materials as evidence. Your essay should compare and contrast the historical and legal problems and possibilities found within Abina and Sara Baartman’s histories. In addition to relating these two lives to one another, the larger relevant historical contexts must be carefully considered. It is important that you gather, organize and present what you consider to be your strongest, clearest, most interesting and most important evidence and ideas. Excellent level work will clearly demonstrate successful informed usage of all relevant materials. All essays must clearly engage our materials as evidence. Last minute generalizations with little if any basis in our coursework materials will not produce the strong point-earning work we both want you to represent. Do not kill your discussion exactly at the bottom of your fifth page — introduce, fully discuss with well-chosen detailed evidence and fully conclude your work.
As a reminder — your essay must only draw directly and exclusively on our course materials including readings, screenings and discussions; you cannot bring any outside materials into direct consideration, discussion or citation. Simply put, we have covered more than enough material to work with for the purposes of this assignment. These criteria will be considered closely in grading.
