The goal of this assignment is to help students understand that the work they will be doing (i.e. your professional work) connects to the academic community that houses journals, conferences, and expectations of peer-reviewed research.
Additionally, this activity will connect the student to their research interest, which will (in this class) build into a research proposal.
The student will be responsible for selecting an organization that publishes a journal and explore the depth and breadth of the organization. Things to consider: What is the purpose of the organization? What is their history? How many members do they have? Do they have a publication? What do you get as a member? What are the fees to be a member? Is this a regional, local, national, international academic organization?
Then, summarize the organization, making sure to explain its relevance to the type of research that you are most interested in pursuing (likely going along with your degree plan).
Below is a list of organizations to choose from. If you have another one in mind that does not appear on this list (there are TONS out there), get approval from your professor to use it as the focus of this assignment (criteria: must be a professional, academic, peer-reviewing association with membership and a journal that is published).
