Submission Instructions
Read each question carefully!
Please clearly show all of your work to receive credit.
To submit your work, either:
Scan and upload a pdf version of your quiz, OR
Typeset your answers in a word document, using a mathematics editor, and submit a pdf version, OR
Typeset your work in our current online platform, CANVAS. Then copy/paste/screenshot your work into a doc, and submit it as a pdf, OR
Use a phone app to scan your solutions to your phone and convert them to a pdf. I have used the tiny scanner app for Android in the past and it worked well for me, but please check if this app meets your privacy/security standards,
I will be unable to grade your work if it is too messy or hard to follow. Improper syntax and not using whiteout/eraser in an effort to write legible solutions will result in point deduction.
Please write your name on the document that you upload.
Assignment Quality Instructions
Independent of the format you upload your solutions (scanned, typed, etc. ), please:
do not write answers next to the Quiz/Exam questions (this includes fill in the blanks and True/False questions). Answers submitted in this format will be skipped.
do not attempt to squeeze full solutions to the right of a question with multiple parts or write answers between sentences.
do not use multiple arrows to point to different parts of a page or different pages. This is okay if you want to point to objects in a computer output, label an item in a picture, etc.
do not combine answers to exercises(For example: write your answer/solution for (c) and an answer/solution for (d), but not provide a combined answer for both (c) & (d))
do not change the sequence/order of the exercises (For example: your solutions should have answer to question 1, then answer to question 2, then answer to question 3, etc. not answer to question 3, followed by answer to question 7, followed by answer to question 4, etc. ). If you don’t have an answer to a question at the moment, come back to it later, leave space, or insert a new page in your work at a later time.
Start your work on a new blank page; however,
you are allowed to change the quiz/exam into a word document and include answers after each question (This is okay!). But ensure you use a different font, more spacing, and/or highlight your work/answer. You could use bold font for the questions, for example.
you are allowed to copy/paste the questions in its exact format but be consistent in writing your answers below them. The idea here is that your work is easy to follow by you (the writer) and me (the reader). This will be helpful to you when you want to review/study for the Final or refresh at a later date.
Clearly label where each exercise or sub-exercise begins. This is already a requirement, but some students often forget to do this. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the answer being provided is for the question being asked.
Ensure your screenshots are not too large or too small (Canvas has a limitation in the amount I can zoom in/out, in some cases making it infeasible to grade a solution).
I understand the challenges of uploading work in digital form, which is why I have provided everyone with multiple options. If you have any questions about the above requirements, feel free to reach out to me to discuss further or provide clarification. 🙂
Please be sure to view all three tabs before leaving this page.

Exam 1
Question 1. A college faculty consists of 400 men and 250 women. The college administration wants to draw a sample of 65 faculty members to ask their opinion about a new parking fee. They draw a simple random sample of 40 men and another simple random sample of 25 women. Identify the type of sample that was described: [1 pt]
Question 2. The amount of charge left in the battery of a cell phone is a type of (choose one) [1pt]                                             Discrete data            Continuous Data
Question 3. The correlation coefficient is not resistant/sensitive statistic. [1 pt]
True    False
Question 4. Every data set contains at least one mode [1 pt].
True    False
Question 5. A National Center for Health Statistics study states that the mean height for adult men in the U.S. is 69.4 inches with a std. deviation of 3.1 inches, and the mean weight is 194.7 pounds with a standard deviation of 68.3 pounds. Which has greater spread relative to its mean: height or weight? Back up your answer with calculations. [3 pts]
Question 6. The following table presents interest rates, in percent, for 30-year and 15-year fixed rate mortgages, for January through December, 2012. [4 pts]
30-Year 15-Year 30-Year 15-Year
Question 6 data

3.80 3.03 3.35 2.66
3.68 2.95 3.35 2.66
(a) Construct a scatterplot of the 15-year rate (y) versus the 30-year rate (x)
(b) Compute the correlation coefficient between 30-year and 15-year rates. If you use your calculator to obtain a “fast” result, write down the calculator steps you used to obtain your answer.
(c) When the 30-year rate is below average, would you expect the 15-year rate to be above or below average? Explain.
(d) Which of the following is the best interpretation of the correlation coefficient?
When a bank increases the 30-year rate, that causes the 15-year rate to rise as well.
Interest rates are determined by economic conditions. When economic conditions cause 30-year rates to increase, these same conditions cause 15-year rates to increase as well.
When a bank increases the 15-year rate, that causes the 30-year rate to rise as well.
