Students will select a topic covered in the Carter & McGoldrick text related to a developmental crisis faced by families. The student is expected to utilize the chapter text and two supplemental readings to elaborate the selected topic.
Discuss how assessment and intervention planning are impacted by the defined developmental crisis; how the selected developmental crisis impacts engagement with families; and how you would integrate the selected crisis into your practice evaluation. You should emphasize some aspect of diversity in your presentation (e.g. economics, gender, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation). Your critical thinking skills can be demonstrated through selecting supplementary readings that challenge or critique the material from the text. You should also discuss ethical dilemmas and how to manage them.
Each student will prepare a 1-2-page handout to accompany your oral presentation (Include the references used). Strive for a balance of presenting information, stimulating discussion, or other creative ideas to enhance your presentation.
Each student will submit a 3-4-page summary of the presentation utilizing the outline below:

1. Identification of ethical dilemmas and how to appropriately respond to them
2. Use of developmental theory, practice approaches, and family dynamic theory in application to assessment
3. Application of the impact of cultural and social differences on response to developmental crises
4. Application of developmental crises concept to family situations to guide assessment and intervention planning
5. Engagement with families for assessment, intervention planning, and evaluation of process and outcomes of practice activity
