Step 1: Critically review the literature
The first step of this assignment is to research and critically review your findings.
Critically review the scholarly literature on theories, models, and/or approaches that have been designed to assist organisations with:
innovation and change management
project planning
knowledge exchange.
Note: as these areas are not discrete, you are likely to read literature beyond that which is suggested. However, be discerning in your reading, incorporating only that which is relevant and will help you build a coherent change management plan.
Step 2: Evaluate your brilliant practice
Critically appraise the brilliant practice you selected for Assignment 2A: Portfolio (Part 1).
Considering the literature you encountered in Step 1 on the various process-oriented approaches to change, turn your attention back to your brilliant practice. In light of the literature, evaluate the feasibility of translating this practice elsewhere within the same organisation for the benefit of others.
Note that change management processes tend to recognise ‘change… [as] a complex and dynamic process which should not be solidified or treated as a series of linear events [but]… incorporates an analysis of the politics of managing change’ (Dawson 1994, pp. 3-4).
Step 3: Develop your change management plan
Develop a change management plan to translate the brilliant practice you have selected elsewhere within the same organisation for the benefit of others.
With your team, devise a well-considered, logical change management plan that:
identifies the tasks required to implement the innovation, with particular reference to knowledge exchange—that is, how knowledge about the innovation will be exchanged within the organisation
identifies the resources required for the innovation
outlines an evaluation plan—specifically:
how you will know the brilliant practice is of value to others within the same organisation
the measurements that will demonstrate this value
how you will know if your change management plan helped to promote the translation of the brilliant practice
the measurements that will demonstrate the success of this translation.
Introduction: Briefly introduce the scope of your report, with particular reference to its aims and objectives, the context or setting and the structure of the report—indicating what the reader can expect to read. ( 150 Words )
The use of VR training for employees within Woolworths which aims to empower staff to handle aggressive customer interactions has proven to be successful. This initiative has enhanced employee confidence with interactions with customers, as well as proven that Woolworths is committed to implementing new technology to improve their changing workplace. With this foundation already being used within many stores, there is a great opportunity for Woolworths to extend VR training to the stock management and logistics department. This department is known to have high pressure situations during peak shopping times, safety challenges and many other logistical difficulties. With this department being crucial for maintaining the supply of goods to stores across the country, VR training can address the specific issues mentioned to create a more efficient and safer working environment. This expansion into the logistics department would represent a strategic move to utilise the potential of VR training, enhancing many skills for employees. This would also reinforce Woolworths’ culture of innovation and show how they are continuously looking for improvements.
Change management plan: Present a clear plan on how you might translate the brilliant practice you have selected elsewhere within the same organisation for the benefit of others. For example, a different department or a different team. This should include the following: (700 Words)
the tasks required to implement the innovation
the resources required for the innovation
In order for the VR plan to be successful in another department within the Woolworths company, specific resources are required to ensure it all runs smoothly. Firstly, the VR hardware including headsets and controllers must be available for employees to access the new training modules. These new training modules centred around optimising logistics performance also need to be created to teach employees the correct and most efficient way of handling goods, dealing with high pressure situations and store navigation. Trained facilitators with knowledge of both the logistics operations and VR technology is also important to have so that the modules have accurate information. As the VR equipment may become damaged over time, correct maintenance and troubleshooting steps need to be in place as well. Finally, funding for purchase of the equipment, software development and operational expenses needs to be available within the company before the roll out can begin.
