Final Paper Instructions
The data set provided for the final paper was
collected from people who suffers from major depression. These patients participated
an experiment, which investigated the success of various treatments methods to
decrease depression level. In the beginning of the study participants were
questioned about their family history of depression (percent of people in the
family who suffer from depression or other mood disorders) and they also
completed a reliable and valid scale measuring their anxiety level (from 0 to 70,
0 being the least anxiety, 70 being the greatest level of anxiety). After they
completed the questionnaire, the researcher recorded participants’ depression
level as pretest depression score by using a reliable and valid depression
scale (scale is from 0 to 100). Then participants randomly assigned to one of
the three treatment groups, which were Control (no treatment applied), Medication
only and Therapy + Medication. For six months participants completed their
treatment. At the end of the sixth months the participants’ depression score
was measured by the same tool and coded as ‘posttest depression’.
For your final paper please write a detailed
report to answer the following questions:
1. Is
there a significant relationship between participants’ depression score before the
treatment and anxiety level? Please decide which analysis is the
appropriate one to answer the question and run the analysis and report
your finding in APA format (Include the screenshots of the result
tables). 3pt
2. Please
interpret the findings of the first question and discuss the importance of the
result. 3 pt
3. Is
there a significant difference between the treatment groups in terms of their depression
score before stating to the experiment (pretest depression)? Please decide
which analysis is the appropriate one to answer the question and run the
analysis and report your finding in APA format (Include the screenshots
of the result tables). 3pt
4. Please
discuss why to answer the third question is important for the study. 3 pt
5. Which
of the treatment methods works better? To answer this question, you need to
consider the difference between the groups based on their posttest depression
scores because the larger difference between the groups demonstrates better
success of the treatment. (Hint: To check one-by-one differences you need to
run a post hoc analysis). Please decide which analysis is the
appropriate one to answer the question and run the analysis and report
your finding in APA format (Include the screenshots of the result
tables). 4 pt
6. Please
provide a figure shows (bar chart) the mean of the pre- and posttest depression
scores separately for each treatment group. 3 pt
7. Please
discuss the findings of the fifth question. What the results mean? How and why
are your findings important? 4 pt
8. How
well can the family history with depression predict participants’ depression
scores before the treatment? Please decide which analysis is the
appropriate one to answer the question and run the analysis and report
your finding in APA format and discuss your findings (Include the screenshots
of the result tables). 4 pt
9. Please
provide a scatterplot (as a figure) demonstrating the relationship between
family history and depression before treatment. 3 pt
Format: Your final paper must be typed in APA format
as a word document in double-spaced.
Margins must be 1 inch for each
side. Font must be Times New Roman 12 pt.
I do not have a page limit but to discuss everything and include all the
figures it should be around 10 pages.
