Start out paper by introducing your topic and what you deemed to be problematic and or if crisis. You will discuss and talk about statistics related to children entering foster care. Lack of awareness and training.
– Youth in care and the trauma experienced through moves and being displaced. Explain and define why a child would be placed out of home. This will lead to the discussion of trauma. Attempting to gain an understanding of self while having to navigate through a world that may not be receptive to their preference due to belief systems.

– Solution: how to train foster parents to be culturally sensitive to their preference through education and connection. You will discuss the need for relationships as related to connectivity to be rapport and trust. Talk statistics and how it improves with support. (Find this) Discuss the need for mentors and for Foster Families to seek help to become educated. The need for a non bias approach know matter your belief system. You can discuss how some Fosre Care agencies accept same sex couple to foster as a solution and or mode of connectivity.
Conclude the above and hold your head high with pride about the content you’ve provided and believe in as it applies to lessoning the crisis within the LQBTQ community.
The core assignment for this course is the completion of a research paper related to the student’s own personal interests in the area of crisis and crisis intervention. Students have significant independence with this assignment in selecting a topic related to crises that is of personal and professional interest at the micro, mezzo, or macro level of social work. Suggested ideas include suicide among a particular population of interest such as suicide in LGBTQ youth, law enforcement and response to people with mental health challenges, terrorism targeted at a specific group or a natural disaster such as an earthquake or hurricane. The paper shall thoroughly discuss the type of crisis chosen, how it is a crisis in relation to social work practice, the size/scope of the problem, preventative measures to keep the crisis from happening, barriers to prevention, but also intervention/response methods used by social workers and others when the crisis does happen. For example- a student may choose to write their paper on tornadoes. They would discuss how tornadoes are a crisis and impact it has (i.e., creates homelessness, destroy personal property, loss of life, financial challenges), the efforts for early warning systems to predict and warn communities about tornado outbreaks, and what is done after a tornado to bring the community back to stability (Community Emergency Response Teams, Psychological First Aid).
Students will choose their topic and write a paper of approximately 5-7 pages (not including title, abstract and references) in APA format. The paper references should include at least 5 journal articles from peer reviewed academic journals. Students may utilize other references such as the textbook or government/official websites, however, they will not be counted toward the 5 required references.
