While some of these countries may share similarities with the U.S. in their approaches to
community corrections, it is also important to recognize that each country has its own unique
legal, cultural, political, and institutional contexts that shape its criminal justice system,
including its community corrections areas. You are not expected to delve deeply or extensively
into the legal, cultural, political, or institutional disparities between your selected country and the
U.S., and I do not want to see students make that the central focus of their paper. However, you
are encouraged to highlight any noteworthy or relevant legal, cultural, political, or institutional
distinctions you encounter during your research of community corrections in your chosen
country.
Select a country (other than the U.S.) with an established community corrections system.
Ensure that the selected country provides sufficient comparative material for analysis and has
available academic (journal articles, books) and governmental resources for this assignment.
Please ensure this before you begin.
Conduct research to gather information on the community corrections system in the U.S. and
the chosen country. Utilize a variety of reputable sources such as academic journals,
government or educational reports or websites, policy documents, and scholarly books to
gather data and insights.
Write a comparative analysis paper that addresses all of the following key points:
– A brief overview of the community corrections system in the chosen country.
– Analyze whether the primary focus in the chosen country is on punishment, rehabilitation,
reintegration, or a combination of these elements.
Examine the various program components of the community corrections system in the
chosen country such as probation, parole, halfway houses, electronic monitoring, restorative
justice initiatives.
Identify the challenges faced by the chosen country for their community corrections system.
Compare and contrast the goals and objectives of community corrections in both the country
and the U.S.
Discuss any innovative approaches or best practices found for community corrections in
your chosen country.
Lastly, compare the chosen country to the U.S. in terms of at least one significant similarity
and one significant difference between the chosen country and the U.S. regarding community
corrections systems.
Ensure that your analysis is supported by evidence through your research. Provide proper
APA citations and references for all sources used in your paper. Recall that any ideas,
information, or words (quotes) must be cited within the paper and then referenced on the last
page of the paper.
The paper should be well-organized, logically structured, and written in clear and concise
language. Pay attention to grammar, spelling, punctuation, and APA formatting guidelines
(as one example, we use one-inch margins and a size 12 font for APA formatting). This paper
does not need a “running head” and does not require an abstract. It does require a title page
and reference page, which are not included in the page count.
The length of the paper should be, at minimum, 10 pages double-spaced. The page count
does not include the title page or the reference page
This writing assignment requires at least six credible academic sources, three of which much
be academic journal articles. Additional resources can be used for the writing of the paper,
but the six academic sources outlined above are required.
