Social Work 5005
Interventions Paper Assignment
Directions
For this assignment, each student will write a paper on a particular aspect of human trafficking. You may
choose to use the same topic as used in your media presentation or chose a new human trafficking topic.
The paper must include the following:
1) An introduction to the topic
2) A review of the literature
3) At least 1 micro, mezzo, and/or macro intervention
4) Identification and application of a Human Rights article
5) Implications for the social work profession
6) Conclusion
All of this must be done from a social justice lens.
Required Headings
Please include the required headings below:
1. Literature Review
2. Interventions
3. Human Rights
4. Implications for Social Work
5. Conclusion.
The first paragraph(s) before the literature review is to serve as the introduction to the paper. The actual
word, Introduction, should not be used.
Content Requirement
All papers must be substantive-meaning the writer must demonstrate an in-depth understanding and
analysis of the topic that is grounded in the academic literature (the bulk of the paper) and a little bit of
common sense. Although government/well-recognized web-based sources can be used in the paper, they
cannot comprise the main references for the paper. They should be used sparingly. You must use at least
10 journal articles in this paper and cite them in the Reference section of the paper.
Sources used must be fused throughout the paper and not presented one at a time in summary form as in
the case of an annotated bibliography. You should also refrain from using direct quotes in the paper.
Paraphrased work is the expected style of writing in this course.Format and Length Requirement
Students will be expected to follow appropriate APA referencing and in-text citations. The length of the
paper for graduate students will be 8-10 pages. Undergraduate students will be expected to write 5-7
pages. This page length includes the title page and references.

Points Required Headings Description
5 Introduction A good introduction clearly sets the stage for the paper.
It must include 1) a purpose statement [what you will be
discussing], and 2) a pending discussion statement [the
components that will be in the paper]. This section
should be fully developed in a paragraph or two. The
actual word “introduction” is not typed. The first
paragraph(s) before the Literature Review is to serve
as the introduction to the overall paper.
30 Literature Review Present a review of the literature that describes your
selected area of human trafficking. In this section, you must
describe your area of human trafficking, how the trafficking
works, who is most likely to be a victim and/or culprit, where
it takes place, social justice issues, and any additional
information that explains human trafficking. (This should be
the longest section of the paper. It is worth 30 points by
itself.)
15 Intervention(s) Describe at least one micro, mezzo, and/or macro level
intervention that is used to address your area of human
trafficking (e.g., cognitive behavioral therapy, policy or law,
raids or busts as rescue attempts, mentoring programs, drug
treatment programs, educational campaigns, etc.). The
intervention must be supported by at least one citation. This
section is worth 15 points and should be thoroughly
developed.
9 Human Rights This paper clearly indicates how human trafficking is a
problem worthy of addressing as a human rights issue. At
least one Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article out
of the 30 must be 1) identified in its entirety, and 2) then
applied to your chosen form of human trafficking discussed
in the paper. Article 4 which reads that –“No one shall be
held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall
be prohibited in all their forms” cannot be used because it is
a given. Choose any of the other 29 articles.
10 Implications for
Social Work
Based on the preceding Literature Review, Interventions,
and Human Rights contents presented, please discuss how
a particular profession or professional could be helpful in the
fight against human trafficking at the individual, family,
group, neighborhood, community, national, or international
levels.
3 Conclusion Unlike the introduction, this section of the paper contains a
precise and comprehensive summary of the main points of
the paper. It exceeds a mere perfunctory wrap-up and it
avoids rhetoric. It also avoids asking the reader questions.
This should be at least one complete paragraph and fully
developed.OTHER AREAS TO
ADDRESS
5 Grammar Good use of the English language and an effective means of
writing are expected along with a synthesis of the
information (the use of smooth transitions between
sentences and paragraphs).
4 APA Style You must adhere to APA (7th ed) for your citations,
references, numbers, margins, spacing, title page, etc.
5 Social Justice The degree in which the project addresses oppression,
marginalization, interpersonal violence, racism, sexism,
classism, or any other form of harm. This should be
integrated into your literature review, at minimum.
Deductions Missing required (n=5) headings; additional headings are
optional.
Deductions Paper length requirements include the title page and
References. Undergraduates must write 5-7 page
papers while graduate students must write 8-10 page
papers.
Deductions Insufficient Number/Type of sources–you must use at
least 10 journal articles in this paper. Additional sources
are also permissible and highly recommended.
