Slide 2-3: Main point (Nojin)
What is lateral violence in nursing?      Lateral violence is also known as
“horizontal violence”. An expression of discontentment aimed at oneself,
individuals, or peers with less authority, whether intentionally or
unintentionally.
Example: eye-rolling, persistent
criticism, demeaning behavior, intentionally withholding information
Example: An experienced nurse continuously criticizes and belittles
a new graduate nurse in front of colleagues for minor mistakes or because she
is asking questions

SLIDE: Conclusion (Nojin)
●
Addressing
lateral violence in nursing is imperative for the well-being of both patients
and healthcare professionals. As evidenced by the prevalence of workplace
violence and its detrimental effects on nurses, from personal distress to
organizational consequences, it is clear that proactive measures must be taken.
●
By
fostering a culture of respect, open communication, and conflict resolution
within healthcare settings, nurses can mitigate lateral violence. Integrating
education on preventing and addressing lateral violence into nursing courses
can equip future generations of nurses with the necessary skills and awareness
to combat this issue from the outset of their careers.
●
By addressing lateral violence
head-on and implementing proactive measures, we can create safer and more
supportive work environments for nurses, leading to improved job satisfaction,
reduced turnover, and ultimately, better patient care.
